Mission The Center for Regional Security Studies (CRSS) is an academic institution under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, focusing on regional security including both traditional and non-traditional security issues. Its mission is to promote integrated research and other academic activities on regional security issues facing China and the region.
Through research programs and activities initiated under the Center and those in collaboration with other institutions, the Center seeks to find innovative approaches toward regional security and play an active role in developing a peaceful security environment for China and other states in the region. The Center is to serve as an arena for exchanging views among scholars, officials, military and media from China and other regional states, therefore contributing to forge a shared security understanding on the key regional security issues.
Functions
The Center will
◆ Initiate, organize, and coordinate research projects focusing on a wide range of security issues facing China and its neighbors.
◆ Host research conferences focusing on regional security issues.
◆ Promote exchange of views on regional security issues ideas among regional states.
◆ Advance policy recommendations on security issues.
Organization
◆ An advisory board, consisting of prominent personnel from China and other regional states, is responsible for overseeing activities of the Center.
◆ An executive director runs the day-to-day operations of the Center.
◆ The Center maintains a limited number of resident research fellows and a significant number of non-resident research fellows.
◆ The Center coordinates its activities with cooperative partners
Issues in Focus
The Center’s research and relating activities mainly focus on the following areas:
◆ Security issues between China and its neighbors
◆ Military power and military relations in the region
◆ Emerging non-traditional security issues
◆ Security cooperation and regional institutional building
◆ Conflict, conflict resolution and crisis management
Financial Support
◆ The Center will raise funds for its research and other activities. It welcomes donations and contributions from Chinese and international foundations, corporations, and individuals.
◆ As a non-profit research institution, the Center will use all of its funds for research purpose only.
